Aloha Detachment #363
Maggie Gaukler, Commandant (email@example.com)
The Aloha Detachment is currently seeking a permanent meeting location.
The Aloha Detachment of the Marine Corps League was reactivated in 2008 after John Ah Chick and Bill Haney met up due to an ad placed by John in the base paper. The first meeting was held in October of that year. Installation of Officers by Bob Canright was in March 2009 with receipt of the charter occurring in May of that year.
The Detachment members decided that they would sponsor a scholarship for JROTC Cadets and dependents of MCB, Hawaii personnel. A fund-raising Gala was held on New Year’s Eve at the Klipper Klub aboard the base resulting in a profit of over $16,000 dollars which provided sufficient funds to provide 8 scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each. Plans are underway for this year when the Gala will be held at the Officers Club at Kaneohe Bay.
Aloha Detachment is currently looking for a permanent home on Oahu and several places have been tried. We anticipate that after the April meeting we will decide on a place and settle in. We continue to recruit members and anticipate good growth this year. The Detachment also participates in Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day ceremonies in the community as well as being part of the Windward Civilian-Military Council which handles relations between the military and civilian communities in Windward Oahu.
